Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 29 May 2026
The short version
These terms are the agreement between you and Kinton Green. They explain what you can expect from us and what we ask of you. We have tried to keep them plain and fair.
The single most important thing to understand is this: your master password and recovery key are the only ways into your vault. We never see your master password and we cannot reset or recover it. If you lose both your master password and your recovery key, no one, including us, can open your vault or get your information back. This is a deliberate part of how we keep your information private. Please keep safe copies of both.
The full terms are below. Nothing in them takes away the legal rights you have as a consumer.
Who we are
Kinton Green is a service provided by Anthony Green, a sole trader trading as Kinton Green ("Kinton Green", "we", "us", "our").
- Contact: support@kintongreen.co.uk
- Postal address: TODO: add before launch
Agreeing to these terms
By creating an account or using Kinton Green, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, please do not use the service. We may ask you to confirm your agreement when you sign up.
Who can use Kinton Green
You must be 18 or over to create an account and agree to these terms. A "Head of House" (an adult) sets up a household and may invite family members to join it, including people under 18 ("young members").
If you invite or add family members, you are responsible for making sure they are allowed to use the service and for their use of it within your household. You should only add a young member if you are their parent or guardian, or have permission from their parent or guardian.
What Kinton Green is
Kinton Green is a private, secure place for your family to store passwords, documents and other important information together. The contents of your vault are encrypted on your own device before they reach us, so that they stay private to you and the people you choose to share them with.
Your master password and recovery key
This matters most, so we are repeating it:
- Your master password stays on your device. We never receive it and we cannot see it.
- Because of this, we cannot reset or recover your master password for you.
- When you set up your account we give you a recovery key. This is your backup way in if you ever forget your master password.
- If you lose both your master password and your recovery key, your vault cannot be recovered by anyone, including us. The information in it will be permanently inaccessible.
This is not a limitation we have failed to fix. It is the foundation of how Kinton Green keeps your information private, even from us. Please keep safe, separate copies of your master password and your recovery key.
Your account and keeping it secure
You are responsible for keeping your master password, recovery key and account details secure, and for activity that happens through your account. Please tell us as soon as possible at support@kintongreen.co.uk if you think someone else has gained access to your account.
Using Kinton Green responsibly
When you use Kinton Green, you agree not to:
- use it for anything unlawful, or to store information you do not have the right to hold;
- try to break, disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the service or its security;
- attempt to access another household's information; or
- use the service in a way that harms Kinton Green or other families who use it.
If you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, we may suspend or close your account, as described below.
Your information and who owns it
Your information stays yours. You keep all rights in the content you store in your vault. You give us only the limited permission we need to store and process your information in order to provide the service to you, for example holding the encrypted contents of your vault and the account details needed to run it.
How we handle your personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of your agreement with us.
Plans and payment
Kinton Green is currently free to use. We are running a closed friends-and-family test and are not charging for the service.
We plan to offer paid plans in future. If we do, we will show you the plans, their features and their prices clearly before you choose to pay, and we will not start charging you for anything without your active choice. We will update these terms to cover paid plans before any payment is taken.
Cancelling, and your right to change your mind
You can stop using Kinton Green and close your account at any time. Because the service is currently free, there is nothing to pay and nothing to cancel.
When we introduce paid plans, you will have a legal right to change your mind, normally 14 days from the start of a paid plan under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, as well as the right to cancel at any time. We will explain these clearly at that point, and we aim to make leaving as straightforward as joining.
If your account is closed, your vault contents are deleted, as set out in our Privacy Policy. Please make sure you have your own copies of anything you need first.
Your rights as a consumer
We must provide the service with reasonable care and skill, and as described. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other consumer law. If anything in these terms conflicts with those rights, your legal rights come first.
Availability and changes to the service
We work hard to keep Kinton Green available and reliable, but we cannot promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. We may update, improve or change parts of the service over time. If we make a significant change that affects you, we will give you reasonable notice.
Our responsibility to you
We do not exclude or limit our responsibility to you where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, and for your legal rights as a consumer.
Subject to that, we are not responsible for:
- loss of access to your vault caused by you losing both your master password and your recovery key, since we have explained that this is how the service is designed and that we cannot recover them; or
- losses that were not reasonably foreseeable, or that were caused by events outside our reasonable control.
Our total responsibility to you for any other loss connected with the service will be limited to a fair amount, and where you are on a paid plan, will not normally be more than the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the issue arose.
Suspending or closing accounts
You can stop using Kinton Green and close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account if these terms are seriously or repeatedly broken, if we are required to by law, or if it is necessary to protect the service or other families. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will give you notice and a chance to put things right first.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the service or the law. If we make a significant change, we will let you know before it takes effect. If you continue to use Kinton Green after a change, that means you accept the updated terms.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes can be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales. If you live in another part of the UK, you may also be able to bring proceedings in your local courts, and your local consumer law still protects you.
How to contact us
For anything about these terms, your account or a complaint, email support@kintongreen.co.uk or write to us at TODO: add before launch. If you have a complaint, please tell us first so we can try to put it right.
