Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 4 September 2026

The short version

These terms are the agreement between you and Kinton Green. They explain what you can expect from us and what we ask of you. We have tried to keep them plain and fair.

The single most important thing to understand is this: your master password and recovery key are the only ways into your vault. We never see your master password and we cannot reset or recover it. If you lose both your master password and your recovery key, no one, including us, can open your vault or get your information back. This is a deliberate part of how we keep your information private. Please keep safe copies of both.

The full terms are below. Nothing in them takes away the legal rights you have as a consumer.

Who we are

Kinton Green is a service provided by Kinton Green Ltd ("Kinton Green", "we", "us", "our").

Agreeing to these terms

You confirm your agreement to these terms by ticking the box when you create your account, or when you accept an invitation to join a household. If you do not agree to them, please do not use the service.

Who can use Kinton Green

You must be 18 or over to create an account and agree to these terms. A "Head of House" (an adult) sets up a household and may invite family members to join it, including people under 18 ("young members").

If you invite or add family members, you are responsible for making sure they are allowed to use the service and for their use of it within your household. You should only add a young member if you are their parent or guardian, or have permission from their parent or guardian.

What Kinton Green is

Kinton Green is a private, secure place for your family to store passwords, documents and other important information together. The contents of your vault are encrypted on your own device before they reach us, so that they stay private to you and the people you choose to share them with.

Your master password and recovery key

This matters most, so we are repeating it:

This is not a limitation we have failed to fix. It is the foundation of how Kinton Green keeps your information private, even from us. Please keep safe, separate copies of your master password and your recovery key.

Your account and keeping it secure

You are responsible for keeping your master password, recovery key and account details secure, and for activity that happens through your account. Please tell us as soon as possible at support@kintongreen.co.uk if you think someone else has gained access to your account.

Using Kinton Green responsibly

When you use Kinton Green, you agree not to:

If you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, we may suspend or close your account, as described below.

Your information and who owns it

Your information stays yours. You keep all rights in the content you store in your vault. You give us only the limited permission we need to store and process your information in order to provide the service to you, for example holding the encrypted contents of your vault and the account details needed to run it.

How we handle your personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of your agreement with us.

Plans and payment

Kinton Green is a paid service. There is one plan and it covers your whole household: £4.99 a month, or £49 a year. Prices are in pounds sterling, and the price you see is the price you pay.

Kinton Green is sold to households in the United Kingdom only. When you subscribe we ask for a UK billing address, and we cannot accept subscriptions from outside the UK.

Your first 30 days are free. We ask for card details when you set up your account, but nothing is charged during those 30 days. Your first payment is taken on day 31, and we email you before it happens. If you cancel during those first 30 days, you pay nothing.

Payments are handled for us by Stripe. You give your card details to Stripe directly, and we never see or store your card number.

If a payment fails, we try again over the following days and email you. Your vault keeps working while it is sorted out.

If we ever change the price. We review our prices once a year. Any change takes effect on 1 September, and we will tell you at least three months beforehand, by the end of May. Your price will not change at any other time of year.

If you are on the yearly plan, you pay the price that applied when you last renewed, for the whole of that year. If you would rather not continue at a new price, you can cancel before it takes effect.

Some households joined us during our closed friends-and-family test. We agreed those households would never be charged, and that still stands. We have told those households directly. If yours is one of them, nothing in this "Plans and payment" section applies to you. You can confirm this at any time by emailing support@kintongreen.co.uk.

Cancelling, and your right to change your mind

You can cancel at any time, and you keep everything until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Then, provided your household has made at least one payment and has not already used this extra period, we automatically give you a further 30 days, working exactly as before, with nothing locked and nothing taken away. Moving a family's whole digital life somewhere else takes time, and we would rather you had that time. We email you twice during those 30 days. After they end, your vault is deleted. As our Privacy Policy explains, copies inside our encrypted disaster-recovery backups take up to about five weeks longer to rotate out, and are never opened or used in the meantime.

Please download anything you want to keep before those 30 days are up. Once the vault is deleted we cannot bring it back, because we cannot read it in the first place.

Changing your mind. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have 14 days from the day you sign up to cancel and be refunded anything you have paid. Because your first month is free, that period can run out before you have paid us anything at all, which would not be fair to you.

So we go further than the law asks. If you email support@kintongreen.co.uk within 14 days of your first payment, or within 14 days of a yearly renewal payment, we will refund that payment in full. This matters most on the yearly plan. Where we refund you in this way, your paid access ends when the refund is made. This is in addition to your rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, which are unaffected.

Your legal rights as a consumer always come first. If anything in these terms conflicts with them, they win.

Closing your account

You can close your account yourself from your account area, or email support@kintongreen.co.uk and we will do it for you. Either way it removes your account and your access to your household's vaults, and it cannot be undone.

What happens to the household itself depends on who else is in it. If no one else has joined yours, closing your account also deletes the household, its vaults and everything in them. If other people are in it, the household and its vaults stay with them — and if you are the Head of House, you will be asked to hand that role to another adult before you go.

Cancelling your subscription and closing your account are not the same thing. Cancelling stops future payments and begins the 30 days described above. If you would rather your information was erased straight away instead of waiting, email us and we will do that for you.

There is one thing we will not do, and we want to be plain about it. While a young member's account is part of your household, we will not close your account — not from your account area, and not if you ask us to. Closing yours would quietly wipe a child's record, and we will not do that on one adult's say-so. Remove the young member's account from the household first, and you can then close your own. A young member cannot close their own account either; their Head of House removes it for them. Email support@kintongreen.co.uk if you would like help with any of this.

Your rights as a consumer

We must provide the service with reasonable care and skill, and as described. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other consumer law. If anything in these terms conflicts with those rights, your legal rights come first.

Availability and changes to the service

We work hard to keep Kinton Green available and reliable, but we cannot promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. We may update, improve or change parts of the service over time. If we make a significant change that affects you, we will give you reasonable notice.

Our responsibility to you

We do not exclude or limit our responsibility to you where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, and for your legal rights as a consumer.

Subject to that, we are not responsible for:

For any other loss connected with the service, our total responsibility to you, taken together, is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the issue arose, and (b) £100. This limit applies however the loss arises. It does not apply to anything we cannot lawfully limit, to your rights as a consumer, or to any right you have to compensation under data protection law.

Suspending or closing accounts

You can stop using Kinton Green at any time. We may suspend or close an account if these terms are seriously or repeatedly broken, if we are required to by law, or if it is necessary to protect the service or other families. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will give you notice and a chance to put things right first.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes to the service or the law. If we make a significant change, we will tell you at least 30 days before it takes effect, and you may cancel at any time before then at no cost. If you continue to use Kinton Green after it takes effect, that means you accept the updated terms.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes can be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales. If you live in another part of the UK, you may also be able to bring proceedings in your local courts, and your local consumer law still protects you.

How to contact us
