Individual files up to 25MB each, which covers scans, photographs and PDFs.

We would rather be paid by you than by anyone else

We built Kinton Green so that we cannot read what you keep here. Not the passwords, not the documents, not the file names. It is locked on your own phone or laptop before it ever reaches us, and the locked version is all we ever hold.

That is a promise we can only keep if you are the customer. Free products have to make their money somewhere, and for a company holding your family's private papers, "somewhere" is not a comfortable word.

So there is no free plan, no advertising and nothing sold on the side. There is one price, and you are the only person paying it.

If you leave, you get an extra month on us

If you cancel, nothing switches off on the day your subscription ends. We give you a further 30 days, working exactly as before, with nothing locked and nothing taken away.

Moving a family's whole digital life somewhere else takes time, and it is worth knowing your new arrangement works before the old one disappears. So take the month. Download everything, move it wherever you are going, and if you change your mind you will find us where you left us.

We email you twice during those 30 days. After that the vault is deleted, because keeping a family's private documents once they have asked to leave is not something a safety deposit box should do.

Nobody loses their passwords over a cancelled payment. That is not how this works.

Locked before it leaves your phone

• Only your family holds the key. Your master password never reaches us. Without it, nobody can open your vault, and that includes us.
• Encrypted on your device. Everything is scrambled before it is sent, using the same class of encryption trusted for government and banking work.
• We only ever hold your vault locked. If someone stole everything in it, they would have a pile of nonsense. We do hold a few ordinary details to run your account, like your email address, and our privacy policy is straight with you about those.
• A recovery key, in case the worst happens. You get one when you sign up. Keep it somewhere safe and print it. It is the way back in if the master password is ever forgotten.
